Who We Are

UN Nepal Gorkha is a non-governmental, non-profit organization committed to empowering communities and improving lives in Gorkha, Nepal. Since our establishment, we have worked hand-in-hand with government bodies, donor agencies, and local communities to address pressing development challenges and build resilient, inclusive societies.

Our Structure

Our organization is governed by a General Assembly of 42 members, who elect an Executive Committee every three years. The Executive Committee provides strategic guidance, while the Executive Director oversees day-to-day operations. Each project is led by a Project Coordinator and supported by technical staff under the close supervision of our Executive Director and Program Manager.

Our Network and Partnerships

We are an active member of:

  • NGO Federation Nepal

  • Youth NGO Federation Nepal

  • Association of Youth Organizations Nepal (AYON)

We also collaborate through various informal alliances including:

  • Joint Initiatives for Peace (JIP)

  • Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction Forum (CMDRR)

  • Shahakarya Shantiko Network

We work closely with all three levels of government and have partnered with several ministries including:

  • Ministry of Youth and Sports

  • Ministry of Education

  • Ministry of Environment

  • President Chure Terai Madhesh Conservation Committee

Our local-level partnerships include Poverty Alleviation Fund, rural municipalities, and district authorities.

What We Do

We focus on a broad range of development themes:

Education

  • School reconstruction and rehabilitation

  • Library and furniture support

  • Teacher capacity building

  • Inclusive education for children with disabilities

  • School improvement planning

WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene)

  • Construction of drinking water systems

  • Community hygiene promotion

  • School WASH facilities

  • Partnered with Oxfam, CARE, UNICEF, and DCA

Livelihoods and Food Security

  • Climate-smart agriculture

  • Food and nutrition security

  • Cooperative development

  • Farmer group strengthening

  • Partnered with NAFAN, DCA, PAF/GoN, and others

Shelter and Infrastructure

  • Over 10,000 houses reconstructed post-disaster

  • Community buildings and collection centers

  • Trained over 1,000 masons in safe construction

Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)

  • Local disaster preparedness and planning (LDRMP)

  • Search and rescue and first aid training

  • Bioengineering and mitigation projects

Gender and Protection

  • Inclusive school infrastructure

  • Livelihood grants to marginalized communities

  • School plans integrating gender and disability concerns

Safe Migration

  • Counseling services and tracking of migrant data

Our Future Plans

In the coming months, UN Nepal Gorkha will focus on:

  • Scaling up community-based agriculture and cooperatives

  • Expanding WASH infrastructure in rural areas

  • Enhancing inclusive education and learning environments

  • Strengthening local governance through disaster preparedness and DRR training
